Dr James Newell has been treating patients of all ages in Woodland for 30 years. Dr Newell continues his fathers' great legacy in California. He graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic Davenport, Iowa in 1977 as a Doctor of Chiropractic. He is well known for his passion for chiropractic as prevention of many common causes of illnesses.
Dr James Newell is also a qualified Dept. of Transportation medical examiner for truck & commercial drivers license holders and X-Ray technician. He offers free spinal care to children up to age of 10 to ensure healthy spine development and prevention of spinal diseases.
He is not only the most caring doctor, he is also a proud Vietnam War veteran. He served as a US Navy Corpsman Medic from 1968 to 1972. From 1972 to 1975 he served in Geneseo IL police department, fire and ambulance EMT. In 1975, he became the youngest elected Mayor of his birth place the City of Geneseo IL. Through 1977, he also served as a Liquor Commissioner in Henry Co. IL and Liquor Commissioner and Judge in IL. But, his most rewarding experience in life has been to educate and mentor 500+ UC Davis Biological Sciences student interns for the past 20 years. Some of these students studied further to became doctor of chiropractic themselves including our very own Steve Hernandez. Steve is graduating from Palmer West, San Jose campus in 2021 and moving onto his preceptorship under Dr Newell in our office. We also provide externships to medical assistants from various colleges and support their medical programs.
We are happy to introduce Dr Anne Hosner as our newest team member. She is one of the few female chiropractors in the State of California and decided to join our facility. Born in Inglewood, CA with Italian, German background Dr Hosner grew up in Carmichael.
She worked in skilled care facilities and at home, rehabilitative environments, general care as a dietary assistant and Registered Veterinary Technician prior to deciding to become a Doctor of Chiropractic.
Just before she went on to study Veterinary Medicine, she changed her focus and decided to learn about chiropractic medicine with major interest in treating animals primarily horses. During her attendance she was adjusted by interns and non-graduates.
She received her very first real adjustment from a clinician at the end of her studies whilst working at a sporting event with Palmer West Sports Council. Coming from the other side of medicine made her more amazed at the profound effect of chiropractic care and its health benefits. She really enjoyed treating athletes, participants as well as spectators at sporting events.
Dr Hosner, a graduate of UC Davis and Palmer College of Chiropractic West, San Jose CA is very gentle and passionate about her patients. She is "A Renaissance Woman" with interests in playing music, choir singing, cooking for small or large gatherings, arts, sewing, knitting, jewelry making, dancing, ballet, theatre and participant in the non-profit Society for Creative Anachronism. But her original love and interest will always be training and spending time with her beloved horses Beaux and Kony.

Heavily being into fitness and wellness he was fascinated by witnessing, experiencing how chiropractic medicine can benefit human beings as a whole. He then went onto studying at Palmer West Chiropractic College and is now scheduled to become a Doctor of Chiropractic in 2022 bringing with him his youth, knowledge, creativity, strenght as well as experience of being part of a chiropractic team for over 5 years. HISTORY of CHIROPRACTIC
Dr. B. J. Palmer. Developer of Chiropractic. B.J. was the son of Chiropractic’s Founder, D.D. Palmer. And like both his father and A.T. Still, he was a brilliant scientist, clinician, and philosopher, who was truly ahead of his time. Whereas Dr. Still believed that FASCIAL ADHESIONS were the root of most diseases, B.J. believed (and to at least a degree, proved) that a very common cause of disease is NERVE INTERFERENCE due to VERTEBRAL SUBLUXATION. In fact, B.J. was so adamant about this premise of his philosophy that he coined the saying, “One cause, one cure“. As far as BJ was concerned, Subluxation was the cause of all sickness and disease, and Chiropractic Adjustments were the solution. And while he may not have been totally correct, science is today proving him to be more right than most people realize.Vertebral Subluxations occur when individual vertebrate are either misaligned or not moving properly in relationship to each other. Among other problems created by the Subluxation Complex, they irritate nerve function, and interfere with the loop of nerve impulses from the brain to the body and back again via the spinal nerves (kind of like static distorting the music on an old AM radio). Although much greater technical details are known about the Vertebral Subluxation Complex today, much of what BJ discovered and taught was spot on. As you can imagine, subtly blocking nerve impulse can cause a whole host of health problems, including to, but not limited to pain.In order to promote chiropractic in the medically hostile environment of the early 1900’s, BJ was not only a scientist of the highest order, he became an expert at marketing. During his tenure, Palmer College of Chiropractic actually owned a couple of radio and T.V. stations —- one being the very station where one of America’s greatest presidents, Ronald Regan, got his start in the show business industry as a radio announcer.
Some questions we get asked often
What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractors use hands-on spinal manipulation and other alternative treatments. The theory is that proper alignment of the body's musculoskeletal structure, particularly the spine, will enable the body to heal itself without surgery or medication. Manipulation is used to restore mobility to joints restricted by tissue injury caused by a traumatic event, such as falling, or repetitive stress, such as sitting without proper back support. Chiropractic treatment is primarily used as a pain relief alternative for muscles, joints, bones, and connective tissue, such as cartilage, ligaments, and tendons. It is sometimes used in conjunction with conventional medical treatment. The initials "DC" identify a chiropractor, whose education typically includes an undergraduate degree plus four years of chiropractic college. i
